THE NEED
The requirements of this measurement vary from country to country, and from state to state. In some cases, volumetric measurements are required and in others, mass measurement. Flexibility in system design is essential in a rapidly changing environment. This is just one advantage of the preferred wet basis, extractive measurement. It can be combined with either diluent or flow measurement to meet the standard you need.
DIRECT MEASUREMENT
The simplest systems are the most reliable. That's why a direct UV absorption measurement is used, coupled to a hot, wet, extractive sample system. This means that sample gas is maintained at a temperature above the dewpoint at all times, and does not need complicated dilution or drying systems. Field proven in hundreds of installations worldwide; all systems have been certified.
THE ANALYZER
AMETEK's Model 4600 is a unique, split-beam, single cell UV analyzer that is highly stable and essentially drift free. This means that complications of automatic gain and lamp current controls are eliminated. Using high energy metallic vapor emission lines gives higher accuracy, linearity, and dynamic range than broadband source and interference filter systems. The rugged analyzer does not use a photomultiplier detector with high voltage power supplies, has no moving parts, and has a wide tolerance of ambient conditions negating the need for air conditioning.
